DAY 1  Arrival

Today is arrival day into the beautiful town of Westport in County Mayo. If you are availing of one of our quality road bikes, today will be a bike fitting day, and we’ll take a short spin out the coast road to make sure you’re comfortable with the settings.

DAY 2

Today’s first stage of our Westport 250 Experience Tour, takes us on a wonderful scenic route out towards Aghagower, and after some initial climbing we’ll begin a downhill descent which offers some stunning views of Lough Mask, one of the largest lakes in Ireland.

Our lunch stop today is in a traditional Irish pub right on the lake shore, where they serve some beautiful seafood dishes, and some wonderful desserts to refuel the body for the rest of the day in the saddle.

After our lunch stop, it’s back on the road for what is a stunning section of today’s route. We continue along the shores of Lough Mask towards Finney and the spectacular Lough Nafooey. After we pass the Lough we’ll make a right turn into the small village of Leenane, on the shores of Killary Harbour and make a stop for a well – earned coffee and enjoy the scenery.

After coffee, it’s back on the back on the bike for the last leg of today’s stage and a spin back to Westport. After a well – earned shower and change, the evening is your own to explore and enjoy the bars and restaurants of one of the best towns in Ireland.

DAY 3

Today’s second stage of our Westport 250 Experience Tour, takes us out of the town on the Leenane road, heading south through the townlands of Knappagh and Liscarney. The first section is relatively flat, but at Liscarney we’ll take a right turn and tackle the steep ascent to Tawnycrower. The scenery back down to the lakes in the valley is amazing and we’ll descend into Delphi, and our selected lunch stop for today.

After lunch, we’ll depart from Delphi and take a right turn heading for the small village of Louisburgh. This is rural, rugged cycling at its best, where traffic congestion usually means there are a number of sheep on the road!

After a coffee, and perhaps some cake in Louisburgh, we’ll take the coast road all the way back into Westport. You’ll have wonderful Clew Bay on your left and the spectacular Croagh Patrick on your right and this is truly a fabulous spin. After today’s route, why not enjoy a few well – earned pints of Guinness in one of Ireland’s most famous bars, Matt Molloy’s. Matt is a member of the world famous Irish traditional music band The Chieftains, and his bar is a haven for traditional Irish music players!

DAY 4

Day 3 takes us on a northerly route out of Westport, heading towards the picturesque seaside town of Newport. After Newport, we’ll take a left hand turn and follow the beautiful coast road towards Mulranney and our selected lunch stop for today.

After lunch, we are going to do a stunning loop out along the coast towards Achill Island and Achill Sound, which will bring us back to Mulranney and the return spin through Newport and back into Westport.

Our Westport 250 Experience Tour is run in conjunction with the Westport 250 festival, celebrating 250 years of this wonderful town. All year round, there are numerous events taking place in the town to celebrate this milestone, so be sure to tie in your dates with one of these events.

DAY 5

Today is departure day, so after a well – earned lie in and a leisurely breakfast, guests will depart from Westport. Transfers can be arranged to take you to your next destination in Ireland, or to any of our airports. Price dependent on numbers and destination.

There are 3 options for accommodation on this Tour, all come highly recommended and have all proven popular with our cyclists on this Tour.

The Plaza Hotel is located in the heart of Westport Town, a short stroll from all the wonderful shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that make Westport such a great destination. The Hotel also has its own swimming pool and leisure facilities, and always a great friendly welcome.
