DAY 1  Arrival

Today our cyclists arrive into beautiful Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara. Set in a private 450-acre estate of woodland, rivers and walks, the castle hotel stands proudly overlooking the estate’s famous salmon fishery, and is a wonderful location to begin our tour.

On arrival, you will be fitted for your bike and we’ll take a short 24km/15mile ride to experience Connemara, this loop will take us along the lake road to Cashel with stunning views of the Twelve Bens. In the evening you will enjoy a pre-dinner drink on the terrace, overlooking the famous Ballynahinch River, followed by dinner in the wonderful Owenmore Restaurant.

After dinner you can enjoy a whiskey from the hotel’s vintage selection of Irish Whiskeys.

DAY 2

Today’s tour takes us along the banks of the Ballynahinch River and onto the beautiful fishing village of Roundstone. After our initial morning spin, you will enjoy a hearty bowl of seafood chowder in O’Dowd’s seafood bar, overlooking the harbour. Famous for the freshest of Irish seafood, O’Dowds was Ireland’s 2016 Pub of the Year and is one of our favourite stops along the Wild Atlantic Way. You are assured of the warmest of welcomes here, as well as the best seafood chowder around!

After Roundstone, we will set out along the scenic coast road heading towards Ballyconneely. The scenery here is spectacular, so make sure to have you camera at the ready, and fully charged! There are a number of beautiful beaches along this stretch of coastline should you feel tempted to get off the bike and test the temperature of the water!

Not far from the village of Clifden, we will make a right turn onto The Bog Road and head back towards Ballynahinch Castle. This route will take us inland, and gives you the opportunity to see the rugged, rural beauty of Connemara at its best.

Once back in Ballynahinch, you will have an opportunity to relax on the terrace with light refreshments. In the evening we take a transfer to Roundstone, where we will have dinner at the acclaimed Vaughans Restaurant, and after dinner we have a chance to enjoy some of local bars in the village. Return transfer to Ballynahinch Castle for a night-cap!

DAY 3

Today we bid farewell to Ballynahinch, and head towards the historical town of Clifden. This is the largest town in Connemara, and will be our lunch stop for today. After lunch, you will have an opportunity to stroll around the town and check out some of its rich history and its many quirky shops and galleries.

On leaving Clifden, we will take the famous Sky Road out of the town, and take a stop at a couple of the viewing points along this road. The views from the elevated Sky Road are absolutely stunning, and provide a fantastic photo opportunity. After the Sky Road stop, we’ll follow the beautiful coastline all the way to the small fishing village of Cleggan. Our base for the night is Oliver’s on the Pier, a fabulous family-run business offering wonderful fresh seafood, straight from the fishing boats that are a stone’s throw away in the harbour! The bar has traditional Irish music each night, and beautiful creamy pints of Guinness, heaven!

DAY 4

Today we have a really spectacular route for you to experience. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll take to the road again, heading slightly inland through some wonderful lakeside scenery towards the sleepy village of Letterfrack.

Our first stop of the day will be at the famous Kylemore Abbey where we will take time out to enjoy a morning coffee and homemade cakes in the beautiful Kylemore Café. After coffee we have arranged a private guided tour of Kylemore Abbey. This monastery, founded in 1920, has an amazing history so you are in for a real treat. The Abbey was established by Benedictine nuns fleeing Belgium during World War 1, and has some spectacular walled gardens for you to explore.

Leaving Kylemore Abbey behind us, we’ll head for the beautiful village of Leenane, on the shores of Killary Harbour. There’s a wonderful downhill sweep into the village along the southern shoreline of the harbour, and we’ll stop in the Leenane Hotel for a coffee. We will then be heading out the northern shore of Killary Harbour passing Aasleagh Falls, on the way to our base for the next two nights, the magnificent Delphi Lodge. Delphi is a delightful luxurious country house and lodge set in a secluded lakeside location. A wonderful relaxed dinner awaits here, they only use the freshest of local produce, including the famous Connemara Lamb.

DAY 5

After the legendary Delphi breakfast, it’s onto the bike for today’s stage, and what rugged beautiful landscape we have for you to experience today. From Delphi, we head north along the fabulous Doolough Lake, another great photo opportunity, before turning right towards the village of Louisburgh and continuing on our inland loop, which will bring us back to Delphi Lodge. We’ll have a couple of coffee stops along the way, and a lunch stop in one of the many rural villages we’ll cycle through today. This is rugged, rural Ireland at its best, wild and largely untouched by man; the beauty is outstanding.

On returning to Delphi, it will be time to relax for the evening, with perhaps a midnight stroll around the lake after dinner.

Today is the final day of this memorable Tour. We leave Delphi Lodge after breakfast, and head towards the village of Leenane. We’ll make a quick stop, catch a coffee and soak up the wonderful scenery of Killary Harbour. We now head out into wildly rugged landscape, where the most common sight you will see will be the famous Connemara sheep! A traffic jam in this part of rural Ireland usually means a large quantity of sheep on the road!

We’ll pass the beautiful shoreline of Lough Nafooey, and on towards our lunch stop for the day in the village of Finney. After lunch we’ll cycle along the southern shoreline of Lough Corrib, a beautiful limestone lake of 20,500 acres, and head into the wonderful village of Cong. Cong was made famous in the 1950’s by the famous Hollywood film, The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.

Today, the village is equally famous as the home of the finest five star property in Ireland, and our base for this evening, the wonderful Ashford Castle. This multiple award winning property offers a truly private retreat in the breathtaking surrounds of Lough Corrib, and the Hotel’s fine woodland estate. This is five-star luxury all the way, and a fabulous way to end this spectacular Tour of Connemara and County Mayo.

Ashford Castle has a number of fantastic dining options for you to enjoy, from the formal, fine dining George V Dining Room, to the The Dungeon Restaurant. And without doubt, the hotel boasts one of the best wine cellars in Europe, so this is a chance to spoil yourself with a vintage red, after your exertions in the saddle.

Today is departure day. After a leisurely breakfast, guests will take a private transfer to their next destinastion. Transfers can be organised to any of our airports or cities, including an executive helicopter service if pre-booked in advance.
