Itinerary

DAY 1  Arrival

The wonderful town of Kinsale and the famous Charles Fort is our starting point for our 5 day tour. Situated a short 25 minute drive from Cork International Airport, Kinsale is regarded as one of the food capitals of Ireland, with some amazing seafood restaurants and bars.

After a bike fitting session to ensure you are comfortable and familiar with the settings on your bike, the tour will start, and we are heading west for Glandore. The route today has a number of testing climbs, but the breathtaking coastal scenery to your left offers a wonderful distraction from the climbing! There are a number of great photo opportunities along the route as we pass through the picturesque villages of Timoleague, Clonakilty and Roscarberry.

All of these villages have wonderful cafes to stop and refuel with a coffee and some homemade cake! On arriving in to Rosscarberry you might take the opportunity for a swim, before your evening at leisure to explore this beautiful harbour village.

DAY 2

After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Rosscarberry and to continue our journey west along the coastline. Initially though, the first section of today’s stage takes us inland and heading for the town of Skibbereen.

After a coffee stop, we are once again heading for some spectacular coastal cycling as we head for our lunch stop in the wonderfully named harbour town of Schull. The route today is quite undulating, but very manageable, and the final stretch sees us hug the wild Atlantic coastline all the way to Crookhaven, our base for the evening.

DAY 3

Today’s 3rd stage of our West Cork Tour sees us take another stunning coastal route, with again the wonderful wild Atlantic coastline on your left. We will have some fabulous opportunities before our lunch stop to take some amazing pictures; this route allows you really experience all that the west coast of Ireland has to offer, and we believe the scenery in this area is unrivalled anywhere in Europe, as one of our cyclists described this stage ‘Its like the hand of man never touched it’.

Today’s lunch stop is in the beautiful village of Durrus. All along this route there are wonderful cafes and restaurants to keep us nicely fuelled up, and this part of West Cork prides itself on fantastic homemade cakes and tarts!

After lunch we take on the second half of today’s stage, and what a treat we have in store for you. The peninsula that we’re heading out on is the aptly named Sheeps Head, one of our most favourite parts of the country for cycling. The scenery on this stretch is breath taking, so once again have the camera phones fully charged and at the ready.

The route will ultimately bring us into the wonderful seaside town of Bantry. Situated overlooking magnificent Bantry Bay, the town has an array of excellent bars and restaurants to explore, and enjoy some well – earned leisure time out of the saddle, soaking up the world famous Irish hospitality.

DAY 4

After a hearty Irish breakfast in Bantry, it’s back onto the bike and we’re heading for the spectacular Beara Peninsula. After a coffee stop in beautiful Glengarriff, the route hugs the coastline out along the peninsula which is one of the most beautiful parts of the iconic Wild Atlantic Way.

The route today has a number of climbs, but would only considered a moderate degree of difficulty for anyone with a good few miles in the legs. As we head around the tip of the peninsula we’ll approach Castletown Bearhaven, a well – known local fishing port and our base for the evening. This is rugged, rural Ireland at its best where the pace of life makes it an ideal location for a stress free vacation on the bike.

DAY 5

The final day of this spectacular tour sees us take a route all the way along Kenmare Bay, crossing the county border from Cork into Kerry. Kerry is affectionately known by the locals as The Kingdom, and when you see the wonderful scenery here you’ll agree with that assessment. This is an undulating route, with nothing too testing and will allow you concentrate on enjoying the spectacular scenery.

Our tour finishes in the beautiful town of Kenmare. A town full of buzzing bars and restaurants, it provides an ideal place to finish this brilliant 5 days in the saddle. Tonight is a night to let the hair down a bit, enjoy the mandatory pints of Guinness, and relive the route with all your friends, old and new!

DAY 5

Today is departure day, at what is the end of one of the most amazing pieces of Cycling terrain to be found anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way. Airport transfers can be arranged subject to pre – booking, or should you wish to extend your stay in Ireland, we can arrange transfers to your next destination.
